Attractions Ontario 150 Ambassador

 We are a hard-working, fun and friendly office and we are looking for someone who will fit right in with us.  Do you like to travel?  Want to see and do and document things around the province?  Produce really good online content, the best content?  You might want to work with us!

We are conveniently located in downtown Toronto (right at the Spadina subway station).  If your idea of a fun way to make some money this summer is to visit some attractions and see some great Canada and Ontario 150 events and document those visits on a variety of social media platforms, then we just might be the place for you.

Of course, there will be some in office work that will be required.  Mainly around helping us make sure our web site is up to date with all the great festivals and events that are occurring this year.

We offer flexible work hours (provided you meet the 30 hours per week minimum).  We know the right candidate is out there; if you are still interested, keep reading!

By the way, we were named “Employer of the Year” by the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) at the 2015 Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will work closely with our Director of Communications to develop and grow our social media presence across a variety of platforms with a general focus on tourism and a specific focus on the Canada/Ontario 150 activities occurring in Ontario. They will also work closely with our Office Manager to ensure that our web site is up to date with all of the Ontario 150 events. The Ambassador will also have duties outside of our office and include distributing printed collateral promoting tourism and doing live social media updates and interacting with the public (predominantly they would be in the GTA but other opportunities may allow them to travel beyond). The Ambassador role would have them visit cultural attractions and events and blog about it for our web site (www.attractionsontario.ca).

Supervision and Mentoring Plan

This role will help develop your professional PR skills and provide you with a valuable insight into marketing.

Specific skills as related to us: social media proficiency, web site development, interpersonal skills from interacting with the public, marketing and writing skills.

Health and Safety Practices in the Workplace:

The employee will be provided with a copy of our employee manual which lays out our policies including our

Unlawful Harassment, Workplace Accommodation on Basis of Disability, Drug and Alcohol Use and our Whistle Blower Protection policies. All appropriate Health and Safety notices are posted. The employee will be required to complete the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s online Worker Health and Safety Awareness module. Given the nature of our work space, we have no hazardous materials onsite nor is the work physically demanding.

Required Skills:

  • Practiced use of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Knowledge of Word Press preferred
  • Access to vehicle an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of web-based applications. Working knowledge in Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Outlook and Internet browsers and web page applications.
  • Must possess a decent smartphone that can take good pictures and HD video
  • A mature, professional and positive attitude
  • Post-secondary field of study should be in Marketing and PR or Tourism and Hospitality

To be eligible, applicants must meet ALL criteria (please note this is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program):

  • between the age of 15 and 30 years at the start of the employment;
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Is a student in a post-secondary, CEGEP, vocational or technical program
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Remuneration and other details:

$15/hr; 30 hours a week

All travel expenses covered or reimbursed

Successful candidate will also receive access to our Reciprocal Admissions program to over 200 attractions across the province; they will have access to this even after the time of employment has ended.
